Who we are
About Us
AboutSexToys.com is an education-first guide to pleasure products. We explain how things work, test them properly, and only then point you at something worth buying.
Why we exist
Shopping for pleasure shouldn't feel like guesswork
Most of this industry still sells on innuendo and stock photography. Materials go undisclosed, specifications are vague, and the reviews you find are frequently written by people who never touched the product.
We built AboutSexToys.com to fix both halves of that problem. First, clear education: what each category actually does, which bodies it tends to suit, and the trade-offs nobody mentions. Second, a carefully curated shelf where every listing states the material, the care routine and the lubricant compatibility up front.
Pleasure is part of health and wellbeing. It deserves the same standard of information you'd expect from a good skincare or supplement guide — accurate, inclusive and free of shame.

What we stand for
Four things we won't compromise on
These principles decide what we stock, what we recommend and how we write about it.
Education before checkout
Every category starts with a plain-language explanation: what it does, who it suits, what it feels like and when it isn't the right pick.
Body-safe or not stocked
We prioritise non-porous materials — medical-grade silicone, ABS, borosilicate glass, stainless steel — and state the material on every listing.
Judgement-free by default
No coy euphemisms, no shame, no assumptions about your body, gender, ability or relationship shape.
Fewer, better products
We'd rather stock a short, considered shelf we can defend than a warehouse of near-identical items.
How we test
Every product goes through the same four steps
No product is scored from a press release or a single evening's use.
- 01
Spec review
We read the manufacturer's material and safety documentation before anything is unboxed, and query anything vague directly with the brand.
- 02
Hands-on testing
Each product is used over a minimum of two weeks — never a single session — across different settings, positions and lubricants.
- 03
Comparison against the shelf
Nothing is rated in isolation. Every product is scored beside the closest alternatives we've already tested at that price.
- 04
Review & re-check
Guidance is fact-checked before publishing and revisited when a product is revised, discontinued or a safety issue surfaces.
How we rate
One scoring framework, applied to everything
Products are scored out of 10 across four weighted criteria. The weighting never changes between brands, and the reasoning behind every score is published with the review.
Materials & safety
30%Material disclosure, non-porosity, phthalate-free construction, seams and finish quality, waterproof rating, and charging safety.
Ergonomics & fit
25%Weight, reach, grip, handle angle and how the shape performs for different body sizes, hand strength and mobility.
Performance
25%Motor character (rumbly vs. buzzy), noise level under a duvet, intensity range, and whether the low settings are genuinely usable.
Care & longevity
20%Cleaning effort, lubricant compatibility, battery life across real sessions, charge cycle, and warranty terms.
A product must clear our materials and safety bar before it can be scored at all. Items that fail it aren't rated low — they simply aren't listed.
Unbiased by design
How we keep reviews independent
We earn money when you buy through the site, and we think you should know exactly how that works — and exactly where the wall between commerce and editorial sits.
- We buy most products at full retail price. Where a sample is gifted, the page says so.
- No brand sees a review before publication, and no brand can request changes, edits or removals.
- Affiliate and commerce revenue never influences a score, a ranking or whether a flaw gets mentioned.
- If a product turns out to be poor, we say so plainly — or we don't stock it at all.

Who writes this
Abigail Reyes
Sexual wellness writer & product reviewer
Abigail has spent the last eight years writing about intimacy, bodies and the products people actually keep in their bedside drawer. She started out answering anonymous questions on a community forum and never really stopped.
Her approach is simple: read the material spec sheets, test the thing properly, and describe it the way you'd describe it to a friend — candidly, without hype and without shame.
She writes for beginners and long-time shoppers alike, and pays particular attention to products that work for different bodies, different abilities and different relationship shapes.
